Private Land Elk Hunts
5 M Outfitters
"No Drawing for License"

5 M Outfitters specializes in private land elk
hunts. We have several large ranches with
very little hunting pressure. Our success rate
for the past several years has been between
65 to 75 percent on bulls 5 x 5 and better. We
take several bulls in the 300+ range.
5 M works very hard to put on a first class
quality Elk hunt. We have made many good
friends the past few years and have about 90 per
cent of our hunters return each year.
Our hunters are awake by 4:00 and have a good
breakfast. We try to arrive at the corrals about an
hour before daylight. The guides and wrangler will
try to have the
horses saddled and ready to go about an hour
before daylight. Sometimes the elk are
down low and we don’t use the horses. We also
have areas we hunt with out the
use of horses. We keep all the vehicles off the
ranches except to retrieve down game. We will hunt
in the morning until around 10:30 when the elk bed
up and the wind has changed we will back off and
come back in the evening around 3:00 and hunt until
dark. When we get a bull down the other guides will
pitch in and help get the bull to the processor
after it is field dressed. Most of the hunters and
guides will return to the lodge after dark.
We will
have a good home cooked meal and turn in for the
night.
You are in the mountains and the elevation is
7800 to 10500. The weather in September is usually
warm in the middle of the day but, early morning and
late evening is a little cool. We recommend a light jacket. The same is true
for the first two weeks of October; you are in the
mountains and could get a snowstorm anytime. Always
bring extra boots and a pair of snow packs. Be
prepared for very cold weather, if you don’t need
it you can leave it in the lodge. Late October and
November is usually cold with snow so bring warm
clothing and boots. You do not need sleeping bags.
Your rifle or bow and personal gear is all you need
to bring with you.
